Is the DIR-825 superior to the DIR-655?

Has anyone had experience with both DIR-825 and DIR-655? If so, what are you thoughts? I am currently using the DIR-655 and just wondering the DIR-825 is a worthwhile upgrade.

My .02, don't change unless you're sure you can use the 5ghz channel.  Other than the additional frequencies (handy if you're in an area that's really congested with 2.4 ghz signals) there's probably no benefit.

I will also give you another reason if you need to replace to a DIR-825.  If you are going to use any Intel Centrino based laptop, then the 5Ghz band width seems to be a "must have" in a router.  The forums "sticky" notes for how to get the 300Mbps access speed explain is greater details on the reason why the Intel Cemtrinos wireless WiFi adapter could be limited at 130Mbps.  The 5Ghz radio band seem to "by-pass" that limitation.

I had started venting about my poor Torrent performance and lack of support for a top-end router but then I ran into a firmware update.  I'll try it out and tweak some more settings a bit.

I'll give the DI-825 one last chance . . .

Sorry to learn about your frustrations but thanks for sharing. I see no reasons to upgrade but plenty not to.

I was forced to upgrade (my 655 died after 13 months).  I've run the 1.10beta for a while now, as I was really frustrated by some of the broken things in the original release.  Even 1.10beta had its issues (e.g., no 802.11b).

However, now with 1.11 out, I think it's a good improvement on the 655.  Some things I like:

  • CAPTCHA during login
  • Website filters work (didn't on 655, but I'm still testing)
  • 5GHz works, so I can run my N-devices at full speed
  • Apparently has a faster processor, UI is much snappier
  • Shareport with Mac support
  • Connections seem pretty stable

Would I buy it if my 655 hadn't broken?  Only if I had $120 burning a hole in my pocket.  ;D
