Firmware 2.10NA - DNS Issues
« on: December 30, 2012, 02:30:10 AM »

I have a DIR-655 rev. B1 and I used to be running firmware version 2.10NA, now running 2.07.

Just wanted to share my experience:

The symptom I was experiencing: while a torrent was active, the rest of the network would struggle to access the internet. Very limited things would load, and 95% of traffic would result in a DNS lookup failure. Pinging www.google.com from the router via the "tools" page would succeed, but loading www.google.com from a browser on a client PC would fail. After researching the problem and trying all kinds of settings (Advanced DNS off, DNS Relay on and off, several different DNS servers) and factory resetting to set up from scratch several times I kind of gave up and just left torrents off for a while. I even tried tweaking the torrent client, but to no avail. Then later, while on a VPN for work I started having the same issues again. I'm by no means an expert, so I can't say for sure that the issue is/was with DNS/Domain Name Resolution, just that this is the symptom I was seeing client-side. I ultimately fixed the problem by downgrading to 2.07 firmware, and have been running for an hour now with torrents and the VPN connected and no connectivity issues. Internet pageloads actually seem faster and more responsive to be honest, but that's just anecdotal.

If anyone from D-Link wants to help me try to troubleshoot the 2.10NA firmware I'd be happy to help try and resolve the issue, but the primary purpose of this post was to share my solution with others who might be having the same problem.
