Dir 655 As a wirless signal booster
« on: December 31, 2012, 02:01:18 PM »

Hello.
I have 2 Dir 655 routers.
The small problem is that I only have cables in a small part of my house, and that the childrens room offcource is in the off corner. Until now iv used an old linksys with dd-wrt to pickup the signal from the main dir-655. The linksys then sends the signal by cable to the other 655 who sends out a strong new wifi signal.

This works, but since the linksys is wireless G its not fast. I was hoping there was some way to get the 2 655  to do the job directly? Either by matching ssid, altering settings etc.

Bridge Mode vs Relay vs Acess Point (AP) / Routers vs Dedicated Access Points (AP)

Great response, thank you FurryNutz.
So its bridging im after. But after reading your guide, I need to ask if the Dir-655 can make a bridge at all?

It can only be used as a Host router or a wired AP.

I recommend checking out DLinks DAP model units as they do AP, Bridge and or Relay.
