Signal quality appears lower using 1.30 beta firmware.
« on: April 25, 2009, 09:22:03 AM »

I upgraded my DIR-655 A3 with the latest 1.30 beta and the upgrade went well and everything is working smoothly. System response seems normal, but I noticed that the signal quality percentage is reading about 20-30% lower than with the previous 1.11 version firmware (50-65% instead of 80-95%).  I am looking at the quality of wireless signal for both a DAP-1522 and a laptop with an Intel 4965AGN wireless adapter, both about 45-50 feet away from the router and transmitting thru internal walls in my house.  The transfer speeds look the same as before upgrade (108-162  Mbps).  All settings and LAN attached hardware is the same, and any change in network response isn't noticable. Has the signal quality calculation method changed, or am I seeing a real decline in signal quality ?

FYI,
there are numeruous posts about this the last few months. You can look them up through he search option.

Recap: it's the measurement itself that is different, there is no actual loss in radio strength.
