dlink ftp is down... need to restore firmware to rev c1 dir615
« on: February 05, 2013, 07:45:32 AM »

The download link for. ftp://ftp.dlink.com/Gateway/dir615_revC/Firmware/dir615_revC_FW_313NA.zip. is down.  My router has appeared to have died overnight.  I have been able to reset it using the pin hole on the back but now it shows a white firmware upgrade system page...  the lights on the front are solid green for the computers connected and the slink name.  Thepower light is now flashing orange.  When I found the router this morning the name and the power light were solid.  The power light was orange.  There were no other lights showing. :-[

Edit:  the lights just went out... checked the power brick...  looks like a capacitor in the brick has pushed and broken off part of the covering... and it is very warm.   I will just hit futureshop and get a new router...

Try this link:
http://www.dlink.com/us/en/support/product/dir-615-wireless-n-300-router?revision=us_revc

It works for me.

Also review this:
Emergency Recovery Mode

Use IE or FF. I recommend doing this disconnected from the ISP modem after you have acquired the zip file

Ah, ya, you might beable to fix it later.

I recommend a DIR-645 or DIR-835 if available.

Let us know what you get.

You mean power adapter plug? If so, no, most DIR routers are 12v 2A, however there are some that are different in voltages. Some are 2.5 and 3As.

i did a bit of looking up on the models you suggested and while both have problems (what tech product doesn't?)  the dir-835 has mostly bad reviews (from what I can find on amazon - .com .ca .co.uk etc...) i will probably end up getting the dir-645... cheaper and more people have had better success with it...

I had the 835 for a time...worked well for me. Theres alot of different issues that effect how these routers work. I do have the 645 as well. Good router.

Come back to the forums when you get something new. Should work well for you.

You do any gaming? Also how many other WiFi routers are near by?

One thing to consider if your area is somewhat congested on 2.4Ghz, you might get into a router with 5Ghz as well for any future needs. Just a suggestion.

Both of the ones you suggested are supposed to do both.  I do do some gaming,  my brother does more.  Need somethong that can handle a tablet 3 smartphones an Xbox and 2 ps3s and my tower on wireless and 2 wired towers though not all at the same time.

Ok, either should work well for you. Again, if your are has more than several other Wifi routers near by, I would recommend getting a router with 5Ghz abilities so you have some form of escape from the congestion on 2.4Ghz.

If you get something cheap now, you could get this later on:  ;D

I got the DIR-645, it is a 2.4Ghz only router but so far it is working good.  didn't use the setup cd, as i knew what to setup..  the only issue was getting the internet back up but unplugging the modem and turning off the router (it has a power button, FINALLY!) and restarting them fixed that.  I also enabled Multicast streaming in the advanced options area, since my brother uses netflix on his PS3 quite a bit (and because it is supposed to help with signal dropouts or something).

Some things to configure: - Log into the routers web page at 192.168.0.1. Use IE, Opera or FF to manage the router.

Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking. This ensures each devices gets its own IP address when turned on and connected, eliminates IP address conflicts and helps in troubleshooting.
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
If IPv6 is an option on the router, select Local Connection Only or Disable IPv6 options under Setup/IPv6.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall.
Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking. Disable uPnP for testing Port Forwarding rules.
WAN Port Speed set to Auto or specific speed? Some newer ISP modems support 1000Mb so manually setting to Gb speeds can be supported by the router. Advanced/Advanced Networking/WAN Port Speed
Set current Time Zone, Date and Time. Use an NTP server feature. Tools/Time.

Link>Wireless Installation Considerations
What wireless modes are you using? Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N?
Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only.
Try setting a manual channel to a open or unused channel. 1, 6 or 11. 11 for single mode N if the channel is clear.
What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only or Auto.
Turn off WISH, and WPS under Advanced.
Try turning off Short GI, WLAN Partition, and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.
Enable WMM Enable Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

Awesome, see you on the 645 forum:
