DIR-655-shareport
« on: January 16, 2013, 07:11:45 PM »

OK, So i apologize if this is in the wrong thread, but I'm very frusterated with windows 7 64bit and shareport.

so I have 1 computer in my office running windows 7 64bit, and I just installed the same OS on another computer on my network, and used the same firewall settings as the office computer and I can get the computer to connect to the printer, however, I cannot install the drivers. sometimes windows tries installing the drivers, other times I try and install them myself that i downloaded from epsons website:

the end result: the installer prompts me to connect to my printer, I connect using shareport, it says connected. On my office(which shareport works fine), windows recognizes that I'm connected to Epson NX400 thru USB001(virtual USB). My other computer, windows won't recognize the virtual USB connection nor will the installer, and ultimately after about 1 min, OR less. the infamous BSOD.

I've tried 100 different things, same BSOD, I've given up. I'm not sure if it's something unrelated to the printer that causes the BSOD but it only happens when the installer says it can't find the printer.

Help please?

You'll need to refer to the printer Mfr web site and support for installing their printer drivers in Windows. However one thing I can mention is that you can try to install the drivers by selecting F8 on the key board during post boot process of the PC. This will bring up a text options screen. Select the Disable Driver enforcement and then continue to boot. Then try to install the printer drivers. Might install.

For Shareport, try using v4.10 from the DIR-835 web site. It works as I'm currently running this version on Winodws 7 x64 Utl.

Installed the newer version you suggested. Installed fine, connected to printer, as soon as it connected, BSOD. I don't think it's the software causing it considering that was a completely separate version of shareport but something involving the connection of the printer over the virtual USB is causing a system crash.

do I need firewall exceptions? or is this a hardware thing? I had win vista ultimate 32bit on this computer before. shareport worked fine, no issues with connecting to the printer, but now that I wiped and clean installed win 7 64bit, i've had plenty of issues.

any ideas?

I would temporarily disable Windows FW and see if that helps.

I think you should contact the printers Mfr and get some help with that.

yeah i've tried disabling the firewall, turned off both the antivirus and spyware.
all i got from that was it would let me connect but as soon as the driver install started, bsod.

i have the log from the event viewer if that's any help?

idk how much help epson would be considering the printer is discontinued.

You might want to consider maybe one of these as an alternative:
http://www.dlink.com/us/en/support/product/dpr-1040-wireless-g-multifunctional-print-server-10-100mbs-1-usb-port

This has been phased out however there might be some still around on ebay or amazon for wired LAN connections which I would recommend:

By the way, I removed the USB2.0print and USB2.0Mass storage drivers from the computer(only because those were installed the very first time shareport allowed me to connect to my printer. then restarted the computer, connected thru shareport and as soon as windows popped the box up in the corner that said installing device drivers...BSOD. so it's not epson anymore, I never had them open. Hopefully someone can help figure out what that log from the event viewer means. I can copy the dump file if needed.
