chmod -R 777 /mnt/HD/HD_a2 gets called on boot
« on: January 24, 2013, 03:50:55 PM »

Hi,

I just spent quite some time trying to figure out why all the files on my network share get chmod'ed to 777 on every boot of my DNS-320L. It turned out this is called from "hdVerify -s" which is called from system_init which in turn is called from /etc/rc.sh. I was not able to find any information on hdVerify, so I would be grateful if anybody could shed some light on what it is supposed to do and whether this behaviour should be considered a bug. If not, I would at least like to have the option to turn it off.

I managed to disable this behaviour by adapting a solution I found here (I hope it's okay to link to another forum):

http://forum.dsmg600.info/viewtopic.php?pid=44533#p44533

Edit: For completeness, this is on a HW rev. A2 DNS-320L bought in Germany, running FW 1.01b03 and equipped with a single HD (in the left bay).

Could you check
if the problem mentioned in
http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=52191.0
(all files visible via web pages in "My files' have the same 'startup date')

is the same problem?

Hi rgb,

I was already thinking these two might be related, it was just too late yesterday evening to still reply to your thread.

I did, however, not see changed time stamps at boot when I did a telnet/ssh into the NAS and did an "ls -l" even before applying the fix, just changed permissions. By which access method do you see the time stamps mentioned in your post?

I post link above as an '[ img ]' but I don't known why it does not work :)

try & look here (just a text not the link):

PS.
The mentioned solution is for USB devices...
but does the problem affect 'normal' HDD as well?

(My DLink has the same HW/SW versions & 1 HDD, the only difference is that it was bought in Poland :P)

It's not exactly the same problem, but I was able to adapt the proposed solution to my problem. Unfortunately, I can not attach files here, but if you PM me your email address, I can send you a modified version of the fix to try. You'll need to have fun_plug installed on your DNS-320L though.
