Local Back Ups on Mac

Besides Time Machine Back ups, I would like to directly back up some folders from my MacBook to my DNS-320L.

I guess I should use local back ups, with user and password set to my macbook user account values. Am I right?

Ok, if then, I've a problem since my username is longer than 15 chars and this seems to be the the upper limit for the web interface.

Any suggestion or work-around?
