Borked Permissions!
« on: February 20, 2013, 01:37:26 PM »

So somewhere along the way permissions on a few files on my DNS-320 got totally screwed up. I have given myself read/write on the volume, which I can do for all the files except a few which have permissions set to read only that simply will not change no matter what permissions are given to the user, share, group, or volume. I can copy these files from the drive, but I cannot edit or delete them no matter what I do including trying on CIFS/AFP or FTP - and a factory reset! All other files on the drive can be read/written/deleted/etc...

At this point the only thing I can think of would be installing fun_plug and trying to edit the permissions manually from the command line. Does anybody know how I might go about solving this ? I really don't want to have to transfer 2TB of data back to an external with no backup while I reformat the raid and re-create the filesystem. Thank you for your time.  8)

Well I ended up doing exactly what I said I was going to do. I installed the fun_plug, telnet in, then changed permissions for the drive to 777. Then uninstalled fun_plug. Not exactly secure, but this is for a home network with a music and photo backup. So it's not a prime target or anything. If anybody has a similar problem with permissions that cannot be fixed even with a factory reset, install fun_plug and edit manually from the command line! Worked like a charm.  :D
