ERROR filtering with MAC address w/ DI-524
« on: March 08, 2013, 03:47:19 PM »

Correct me if Im wrong but the most easiest method to block a user from accessing the LAN network would be denying them through the MAC address? However everytime I input the MAC address of the device, it keeps giving me the error: "The MAC Address that you input is in a wrong format". I know that there probably isn't nothing wrong with the MAC address that I've  DHCP client>clone>apply. Where it continuously gave me this error. Doubting that I actually gotten the MAC address inputed wrong, (there is already a template for the MAC address of XX:XX:XX:XX:XX). And possibly the latest firmware (v 5.00) am I correct? Please help

What browser are you using?
Try Opera or FF? If IE 8 or 9, set compatibility mode and test again.

Try removing the (:) colon marks between the numbers and see. If not, it's possible that your router maybe be out of date and incompatible with newer MAC addresses.

I tried both chrome and firefox. As I said, I don't think it has something to do with the MAC address that was inputted, as the colon marks is already part of the template. I've figuring it's something wrong with this router as it has many years... is there a better solution besides getting a new router? o.o

Not sure if version 5.00 is the latest firmware or not, is there a way I could find out?

On the product itself itsays Hw version : "E3"

I live in Canada, Ontario.

EDIT* also to note is that most features on the settings itself won't work either, such as blocking URLS and keywords

I see that there is a v5.10 FW on the Canadian web site.
You can try this out if you want too:
http://www.dlink.com/ca/en/support/product/di-524-high-speed-2-4ghz-802-11g-wireless-router?revision=ca_reve

If you do, please use IE only to update the router. Do not use Chrome.
Do a factory reset before and after sending the unpacked .bin file.
Then set up the router from scratch.

Let us know how it goes.
