Shareport and the DIR-655 using Windows XP
« on: July 27, 2012, 06:18:22 PM »

First the Basics:
Computer: Dell XPS-450 3 Ghz Pentium D, 3 GB Ram, 1 TB HD
Software: Windows XP Media Center Edition Service Pack 3
Router: D-Link DIR-655 A3 Firmware: 1:21
Running Version Of Shareport: 1.17

I downloaded the V3.0 version of Shareport off of the Dlink Support area off of the DIR-655 area.  Software installed fine but Shareport kept giving me "No Servers Detected".  Added port 19540 to McAfee Firewall.  Same issue. Uninstalled V3.0 and rebooted

I tried the version 4.11 off of the DIR-835 site.  Same issue. I added the port : 19540 to my McAfee Firewall.  No change in status.  Uninstalled V4.11.

Found the above Link suggesting V1.17.  Added the TCP Ports: 80,20005 and UDP port:9303 to the McAfee Firewall.

It Works Perfectly!!!

I can only assume that there are driver issues between A3 DIR-655s, XP and 1.21 Firmware.

Any comments are welcome.  Anybody found a workaround for this router and V3 or 4 Shareport?  I'll be trying Windows Vista 64bit next.

You might try upgrading the routers FW and see if that works with v4 of SP.

I would recommend that if SP v1.17 is working with your current version of router FW than I would keep using that version. v3 and v4 may not be compatible with v1.21 of router FW.

I know v4 works for me on my 655 Rev B1 FW v2.03-v2.07.

Thanks!

I've been scanning this forum for anybody with a DIR-655 A series router with a working copy of V3 or V4 Shareport that seems happy with the performance using 1.3x firmware and have been unable to locate such a post.  Hopefully you know of one.

When I use the Router Firmware update function, it says V1.21 is the latest version.  Obviously such is not the case?

I take it you would update to the latest version of Firmware?  (1.35)  I've seen your previous posts about B Series 2.07 Firmware CREATING new problems thus my reluctance and concern, especially since I can't go back to V1.21.

Seems that SecureSpot was deemed an error.  are there any other negative performance issues with updating to V1.35 firmware?

I see you're running a B series, I'd love to hear from a couple of A Series folks on this one.  Especially one with a V3 or 4 Shareport running the way they like it.

Did your B series router ever have any "Server Not Found" issues with previous firmware or Shareport versions?

Best Regards,

DaveVT in the 655 forum has a Rev A router running v1.35 I believe. I would send him a PM and see if he can help you out any.

Let me restate that Shareport V1.17 is working.  Flash drives and my old Brother HL-1240 printer all work flawlessly.  I know I'm missing some features with newer versions of Shareport, but I don't want to lose any functionality or reliability by venturing into untested waters.  The next step would be a USB hub and experiment with multiple devices.

My question would be,"What additional features does V4 have over V1.17?"

Hello.
I noticed this thread and since it was in the same issue Il follow it.

Iv got 2 Dir-655 one A2, and one A4. Both running on 1.31EU firmware.
They are only beeing used as shareport dockings, no DHCP.

I can confirm that none of these work with 4.11 or 3.10 of shareport. But works with 1.17.
Is there any versions between there that might work?
Or might it help to change firmware?

DIR-655/B1 2.06EU: works with SP 1.17/Windows XP 32bit. NO luck with SP 3.x or 4.x. in any OSs tested.

Problem is that old version SP does not work with x64 Windows platforms or OSX 10.7 / 10.8.

Better luck with NA firmware? Is there a way to install NA-firmware to EU-hardware? Are SP3.x and SP4.x versions targeted for NA firmware revisions???

EDIT: Breakthough! Found a german FTP server with November 2012 dated versions of SharePort for both Windows (v1.20) and OSX (V1.11).
ftp://ftp.dlink.de/dir/dir-655/driver_software/

Shareport on OSX 10.8.2 works now perfectly. SP version 1.11. Yihaa!

NA FW is only meant and designed to work with NA units. Same goes for EU units and FW. They are not supported in cross flashing. There are differences between NA and EU FW and HW.

DIR-655/B1 2.06EU: works with SP 1.17, but NOT with SP 3.x or 4.x.

Problem is that old version SP does not work with x64 Windows platforms or OSX 10.7 / 10.8.

Better luck with NA firmware? Is there a way to install NA-firmware to EU-hardware?

SharePort 1.20 on Windows 8 64bit, works out-of-the-box. No need for additional firewall tweaks.

ftp://ftp.dlink.de/dir/dir-655/driver_software/ShareportUtility_120_win_multi_20120924.zip

SharePort 1.11 on Mac OSX 10.8 64bit, works out-of-the box without tweaks.

ftp://ftp.dlink.de/dir/dir-655/driver_software/ShareportUtility_111_macos107_multi_20120329.zip

These are recommended programs for DIR-6xx (EU-firmware) routers. Be sure that your client is on LAN-side of router (does not work if your client is on WAN side).

NA-firmware routers and DIR-8xx-series may work with SharePort 3.x or 4.x?
