I am using my new 320L NAS as a backup but the transfer speeds are annoyingly slow (~10MB/s wired and ~2MB/s wireless). Reading posts it seems the router is the bottleneck but it is not clear to me what I will get if I upgrade my old Wireless-G/100Mb router to a new wireless-N/1Gb model. So I can decide if it is worthwhile can somebody tell me:
1. What is the real life limit of the NAS itself?
around 25/30 MB/s
the limit is the nas cpu wich is pretty weak.
2. What you would expect from a wired link via a 1Gb router?
same - if your pc has a 1gb ethernet port too off course.
3. What you would expect from a wireless-N connection?
that depends on the kind of connection, its strenght and how many wireless devices are connected, but it wont ever be as fast as an 1gb/s wired ethernet.
on a 150 (nominal) wireless connection I get around 7-8MB/s on the same pc that goes up to 30MB/s wired, mind that its pretty far from my router.
