Hi all,
I've got a pretty old DNS-323 (4-5 yr old now?  And I'm having to reboot it every few weeks.  It seems to periodically drop off the network and I'm getting a little worried about its stability.
It's got two 1TB drives RAID-1.
If I replace it with a DNS-320L, do I have to reformat the drives, or can I just drop my existing drives into it and be off and running?

There was no problem, when I put my disks with data , formatted as jbod from a DNS 320 into a DNS 320L! So just try it, the system will ask for your permission, if for some reason ever it thinks it has to reformat the disks so that all information gets lost.

I can only speak for the DNS-320.  D-Link's official word is that the DNS-320 can only accept DNS-323 HDDs formatted as Standard Volumes.  RAID arrays will not be recognized and you risk losing all data.

Before you attempt any data migration I strongly recommend you create a full backup of your data.

So if I want to replace my DNS-320 with the new DNS-320L it is not possible to drop the two disks (RAID-1 arrays) simply in the new DNS-320L without reformatting?

My statement just applied to migrations from the legacy DNS-321/323, not DNS-320 to DNS-320L. I'll ask D-Link directly and see if I can get a definitive answer.

Anybody have an update on this? I too would like to move my HD's from a DNS-323 to a DNS-320L without reformatting.

There are changes in the file system between the legacy DNS-321/323/343 and DNS-320L.  RAID definitely won't work, although it's possible that Standard format is transferable, but I'm not certain. When it comes to data integrity, it's always bets to copy data onto a HDD formatted by the receiving ShareCenter using the native formatting/configuration tools.
