Log into DSL-526 modem when bridged to DIR-655
« on: April 04, 2013, 02:39:38 AM »

Hi, I have a DIR-655 connected to my DSL-526B in bridge mode.
They both have different IP addresses.
I want to log into the DSL-526B frequently to look at the modem stats (Eg SNR, ATT, Rate etc), but I can't unless I disconnect the DIR-655 and connect the DSL-526B via laptop.

How do I log into the modem when the router is connected?

Thanks
Tanya

When DSL modems are in bridged mode, accessing the modems web page is no longer accessible in this mode. You'd have to un-bridge it to access the web page and logs.

Try assigning an unused static IP to the client machine.

Ok, thanks

That's going to be annoying. Unplugging the router (and everyone connected), several times a day..

Thanks

If the modem is bridged to the 655, then all other devices should be connected to the DIR-655. No disconnections are needed.

Errr... To plug in a laptop to the DSL-526B in the LAN port I have to unplug the LAN cable that goes to the DIR-655, where everyone is connected, hence they will be disconnected from the Internet

The 655 provides no useful data on connection stats, which is expected, it's not a modem

What about telnet? Could I telnet to the modem and get the stats that way, with the 655 connected?

Telnet is not a web interface, but what I'm guessing you're saying is that access to the modem in ANY mode is not possible when it's bridged. For all intents and purposes the modem no longer exists while it is bridged.

Ok, perhaps it's time to finally discard the split devices and go for an all-in-one

The modem IS there, just some of the features it has are not made available in Bridge mode.

It's preferred that if you use a external router and have a bridged modem, let the external router handle any and all PPPoE and DHCP functions and the modem is just the interface between the ISP service and the router which is still required and needed.

It will work well for you.

Good Luck.

The router does do all that, it's just that I need access to the modem stats like SNR, ATT, Rate, etc several times a day to record.

Even though the combination works well, if I cant get to the stats I'll have to change to an AIO.

thanks
