DIR-655 as Range Extender over HomePlug?
« on: May 07, 2013, 01:44:06 PM »

I just replaced my DIR-655 with a DHP-1320 since the constant microwave usage in our house whacks out our wireless during breakfast and dinner time. Now the PCs on the other side of the house are connected over a HomePlug network.

Is there a way to connect the DIR-655 to one of the HomePlug ports on the distant side of the house to "extend" the wireless coverage there for our laptops? Presume this is a different scenario than creating a "bridge", "access point", or "extender" since the router would be connected back via Ethernet cable. There may be some overlap too in wireless coverage around the middle of the house. Ideally I'd like to use the same SSID.

Has this ever been done before? What would I need to reconfigure on the DIR-655?

Thanks in advance.

Is it still considered an AP if the DHP-1320 is handling the main broadcast?

So technically is this possible with the DIR-655?

Yes on both accounts. Can use the same SSID and PW as the main host router uses, just needs to be on different channels.

Cool, thanks. So nothing else to disable on the DIR-655, like DHCP and stuff?

Review the sticky guide, has all you need. Yes, disable everything that is not used any more if running it in AP mode, like DHCP, filters, SPI, WISH, WPS, all of that stuff accept WiFi of course.
