I've tried everything you normally post in every other forums so here are the answers to those questions right off the bat. I switched to this router to see if the signal can go through our brick wall to inside the house better than the Linksys M10 that we got on black friday. I would like to keep using the Dlink since I paid for it already but it keeps dropping the Internet. Can you help me out with this one? I manage a computer repair shop and work with routers on a weekly basis. If there is anything you would like me to try just ask. I also have 2 more of these in the shop I could bring home to see if that helps.

What region are you located? Tennessee United States
What kind of downloads are you doing? I can be doing nothing and it stops giving me Internet access.

What ISP Service do you have? Cable
What ISP Modem make and model do you have? I am using my own which is a Dlink DCM-202.
Some things to try: - Log into the routers web page at 192.168.0.1. Use IE, Opera or FF to manage the router. Always do since I’ve seen this post.
Turn off ALL QoS or Disable Traffic Shaping (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options. Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel. This is Off.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual. Don’t have this option.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking. Has a check which can’t be taken out.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking. This ensures each devices gets its own IP address when turned on and connected, eliminates IP address conflicts and helps in troubleshooting. I am trying this out now.
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address. Have always been set like this.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall. Don’t have this option.
Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking. Disable uPnP for testing Port Forwarding rules. Multi-cast steaming was turned off so I turned it on.
WAN Port Speed set to Auto or specific speed? Some newer ISP modems support 1000Mb so manually setting to Gb speeds can be supported by the router. Advanced/Advanced Networking/WAN Port Speed. Set to Auto.
Set Time and Time Zone under Tools/Time. Why does mostly every setting change require a reboot? haha
Link>Wireless Installation Considerations
What wireless modes are you using? Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N? Trying G and N Mixed.
Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only. Set to 20 MHz.
Try setting a manual channel to a open or unused channel. 1, 6 or 11. 11 for single mode N if the channel is clear. Set to 6. All wireless connections around were 1 and 11.
What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only or Auto. WPA2 Only and AES in cipher type.
What wireless devices do you have connected? Cell phone is usually the only thing connected all the time. This could also happen with nothing on the wireless connected.
Any cordless house phones? Nope
Any other WiFi routers in the area? Link> Use InSSIDer to find out. How many? There are 4-5 but 3 of them usually display 0% signal.
Turn off WISH, and WPS under Advanced. Wish is off and so is WPS.
Try turning off Short GI, WLAN Partition, and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless. Just turned off Short GI.
Enable WMM Enable Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless. I can’t change this option but it is enabled.
Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing. 3rd party firewalls are not generally needed when using routers as they are effective on blocking malicious inbound traffic. I use Windows Firewall and MSE for this. I’ve never needed anything more. Internet works fine with my cheap black Friday M10 Linksys.
Turn off all devices accept for one wired PC while testing. I usually only have 1 PC connected when it disconnects. My laptops are usually off all the time.
Check cable between Modem and Router, swap out to be sure. Link> Cat6 is recommended. Checked. Cable works.
