Samsung Network printer SCX-3405SFW on DIR-645
« on: May 08, 2013, 11:21:23 PM »

Dear guys,

I just bought a DIR-645:
Attached by LAN: 2 computers, 1 NAS and 1 Samsung SCX-3405SFW
By WLAN: 2 Laptops, BoxeeBox and some smart phones
All except the printer is working fine (using default settings of the DIR-645)

Problem with the printer (wich worked well on my previous DI-524):
- Printer is well recognized by the switch and gets normal IP address
- Windows 7 is able to find it also with the correct IP address (through "add a printer") and driver can be installed correctly.
- But then at the last window, where you can select "print a test page", after pushing this button, nothing happens and the printer is hanging (cant be switched off, just by pulling the plug).
- Error message from Samsung printer status: "The Port is not connected. Check it"
- After pulling the plug and re connecting, the test page is printing.
- But trying to print (tried an excel sheet) the printer hangs again so I need to pull the plug again. after re connecting, the job remains in the queue and the printer is hanging again.

I'm really desperate - sorry for my pood english, I'm from Germany - and I hope some good guys can help me.

Thanks in advance
Marc

I think you need to refer to your printer Mfr to ensure that the printer is working correctly with out being connected to the router. Make sure cables and plugs are in good working condition.

Good luck.

Hello Furry,

As already mentioned, the printer worked well on my previous DIR-524.

Also it works fine connected by USB and also connected by WLAN to the new DI-645 it works wery well.
Only connected by RJ45 cable, it shows the issues (printer hanging/freezing after receiving a print job).

Thanks

Is this the only device that seems to hang?
Has a factory reset been performed?
Drivers for the printer up to date?
Try a different port or do all ports exhibit the same thing?
Swap out the cable between the printer and 645?

What is the max supported LAN port speed on the printer?

Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on routers web page under status.
What region are you located?

What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on routers web page under status.
What region are you located?

Some things to try: - Log into the routers web page at 192.168.0.1. Use IE, Opera or FF to manage the router.
Turn off ALL QoS or Disable Traffic Shaping (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options. Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual or under Setup/PARENTAL CONTROL/Set to>None: Static IP or Obtain Automatically From ISP.
Enable Use Unicasting (compatibility for some ISP DHCP Servers) under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking. Link>Finding Faster DNS Addresses using Name Bench
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking. This ensures each devices gets its own IP address when turned on and connected, eliminates IP address conflicts and helps in troubleshooting.
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
If IPv6 is an option on the router, select Local Connection Only or Disable IPv6 options under Setup/IPv6.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall.
Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking. Disable uPnP for testing Port Forwarding rules. Enable IPv6 Multi-cast Streaming for routers that have a Media Server option. Disable IPv6 Multi-cast Streaming if IPv6 or Media Server is not being used.
Turn off WISH, and WPS under Advanced.
WAN Port Speed set to Auto or specific speed? Some newer ISP modems support 1000Mb so manually setting to Gb speeds can be supported by the router. Advanced/Advanced Networking/WAN Port Speed
Set current Time Zone, Date and Time. Use an NTP Server feature. Tools/Time.

Seems like if the printer is getting the job after it is sent, then it's already passed through the 645 router and could be an issue at the printer.

Dear Furry,

here the answers:

Is this the only device that seems to hang? yes
Has a factory reset been performed? yes
Drivers for the printer up to date? yes
Try a different port or do all ports exhibit the same thing? done, still same thing...
Swap out the cable between the printer and 645? done, still same thing...

What is the max supported LAN port speed on the printer? Ethernet 10/100 Base TX

Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on routers web page under status. v.1.03
What region are you located? Germany

Regarding the other "things to try", seems that it's all default settings. Since I didn't changed anything (except the ISP settings), that should all be ok.

Still have the same problem  :(

Ok, so there is v1.04 available if your interested in trying it:
http://www.dlink.com/de/de/support/product/dir-645-wireless-n-home-router-1000
I don't know if this will help or not.

Please follow this for updating:
FW Update Process
Do a factory reset again after the file is sent and comes to ready then set up from scratch. Do not load any saved configurations from file.

Keep us posted.

Dear Furry,

sorry for the late answer.
I upgraded to FW 1.04, everything went fine but I still face the same issue.

Meanwhile I use the printer via WLAN (WPS) which works fine.

With RJ45 cable I tried again different cables and different ports.
Now, as soon as I connect the cable, the printer is hanging right away (doesn't react, can't be switched off, only disconnecting from power AND network gets him back again.
I also tried again to connect the printer to my old DIR-524 switch by cable, which worked perfekt!

I also opened a case @Samsung support but I doubt that they're able to help.

Maybe you still see a possibility to help here, if not, I'll go on using the printer by wireless.

Thanks
Marc

Any chance you have a friend or family member that has a printer that you can barrow for a short period of time and install a different printer? Just seems that the printers LAN port could be at issue here. If your other LAN devices like PCs and such are working on the 645, then the problem seems to be with printer. Need to verify with a different printer that has a LAN cable connection of possible. I can test my 645 with my printer and see since it has LAN support.

Finding another network printer somewhere won't be possible :-(
But as already mentioned on my previous DIR-524, this printer worked fine.

How ever, Samsung support asked me to load a newer FW which I did.
After updating, it seems that things have improved a bit.
I can now print a few times, only after a while (maybe 30min...) the printer hangs/freezes again :-(

Maybe tomorrow I have more experience, I'll let you know...

Thank you

Ok, seems like you might be going in the right direction.
Again, swap out LAN cables to be sure.
The older 524 router is probably a 10 or 10/100Mb LAN conection router. The 645 is 1000Mb. I might think that maybe there is a compatibility issue between this and the printers LAN speed connection. Seems like there is a problem on the LAN side on that printer.

Keep us posted.

Just FYI,
I connected my HP LaserJet P2014n via LAN cable to my DIR-645 loaded with v1.03 and printed 4 jobs, 2x 4page PDF jobs, 1x 1page word document and a 1x page picture file. All printed correctly with out any printer hang or problem.

Let us know if you have any new status on your printer.

Ok, good to know.
I'm also in touch with the Samsung support and they told me that with all the information I gave them, they want to go deeper into that problem. I think they will try to reproduce this issue and asked for more time.
I'll let you know as soon as there are news.

Dear Furry,

FYI, I returned the D-Link DIR-645 finally and bought an Asus RT-N56U N600 last week.
The printer now works fine connected by LAN and also the general signal quality seems to be a bit better than with the D-link. So case closed from this side.
BTW, no reply from Samsung Support up to now.
However thanks a lot for your support!
