DNS-325 - Weird password problem
« on: June 25, 2013, 06:21:19 AM »

Hi all,

i've got a weird password problem. Whatever admin password i choose (or any other user), after a few days
of use, it is changed into a new one and i cannot log in unless a perform a hard reset of the nas. I checked my lan access and there is not any device i don't know who is accessing my network. Does any of you append to have this problem? thanks for your answers.

Try clearing your browser cache. If your password is saved or auto-completes, there is a chance the wrong value is saved.

Might well be. I observed the same on my ffp 0.7.
First, log in with telnet (you'll need to re-enable it if you did disable telnet after setting up ssh).
Then run pwck and grpck from the command line. I suspect you have new entries for the root account in your shadow file.
Also check your /usr/local/config directory. Do you see strange scripts with recent creation date? What are they?
I blocked all http and ssh access to my NAS from outside network and only log in via VPN to my home net. I also deleted all those weird scripts and folders and since then it has been quiet.
