optimal settings for maintaing a vpn on a DIR-645
« on: May 09, 2013, 05:18:06 AM »

I have been having a problem with vpn drop outs, as far as i can tell i have it all set right. was just after a confirm as they keep dropping. vpn will connect and stay up for any where from 10 min to 2 min. all vpn settings on my PC are correct as they are on the other end. i have no problem getting in from work.

I have telstra cable net connection. Netgear cable modem in bridge mode. connected to my Dir-645 via cat-6.
I will have the problem when using wired (cat-6 ) or wireless.

I'll run through my settings.

network settings are DHCP enabled on a 192.168.72.0 subnet so as not to conflict with any other networks i use.

no virtual server settings.
i do have port forwards to my PC, but 1723 is included for my pptp traffic.
no app, qos, network filter, access control, website filter, inbound filter.
Firewall settings are address and port restricted and ALG has all the boxes for vpn and ipsec ticked.
upnp is enabled, mulitcast streams is enabled EEE is not.

and thats a basic rundown of my settings.

mtu on the internet is set to 1476 as the netgear modem is a little flaky at 1500.

i just for the life of me can not work out why my vpn won't stay up.

Any help at all would be great.  ;D

I wanna say that I saw a recent post where someone said using Mac Filtering helped maintain the VPN connection. I'll keep looking for this information. Was in one of the forums, just can't remember.  ::)

I found something and can review it and see if it helps any:

I would recommend that you phone contact D-Link support and ask for level 3 or higher support. Let us know how it goes.
