Some issues after an upgrade to 1.08
« on: June 02, 2009, 01:41:49 AM »

Previously i was running firmware 1.05 so i upgraded to 1.08, performed a factory reset and now when i try to recreate my user accounts for my ftp server i get an error "User name must begin with a letter.", however it does. This does not happen if i create a group.

Also I mapped my NAS with my Macbook Pro running OS X 10.5.7 and after a few hours, the NAS became unresponsive and had to be unplugged. This issue happened with the 1.06 firmware but not with 1.05.

Any ideas?

I'm seeing the unresponsiveness you mention as well, with FW1.06. I have not really looked into it yet, though. Sometimes it happens after an hour or so, sometimes only after days. But it will happen eventually. Once it happens, the DNS323 still seems to be running, it just as if the network connection was dead. It will still react to the front button and shut down.

I would like to note that as long as i only map the NAS under windows it works fine. This issue only appears when i also map it on my Mac.

Does anyone else have this issue? Any ideas?

I just wanted to add another update to these issues.

FTP - I can create a ftp username with a single number in it, but if i use 2 numbers then i get the error message.
Ex: ftp01user doesnt work
Ex: ftpuser1 does work

NAS becoming unresponsive - This only happens if i leave the drive mapped on my Mac. If i map the drive, use it then unmap it when i am done, the NAS does not become unresponsive.

You Mac guys sure that it's the DNS-323 becoming unresponsive and not OS X/Finder/Aqua?  I've been experiencing this phenomenon with a several different connected SMB network shares on different NAS devices for the last couple years, using OS X Leopard.  It seems to happen with the DNS-323 mapped SMB share the same as it does with my NSLU2 and with SMB shred folders on Windows and other Mac devices.

Well the issue only happens for me with firmware 1.06 or higher (1.08 beta included). I also noticed that i can map the 323, use it for a bit, then unmap it and the NAS will not become unresponsive. The issue only occurs when i leave the drive mapped for several hours. I have not tested this with a Linux install yet.

Also I am unable to get my FTP server working after switching to 1.08. I get an error when i try and connect to the server. Does anyone else have the ftp server working?
