Remote Guest Has No Color, No Sound and Choppy Playback
« on: August 30, 2013, 04:19:19 AM »

(The threads in here don't look very promising)
Well I bought my 2132L camera a few weeks ago, and finally have it set up to allow outside users access to my camera in my garage. I am on a 50Mbps plan with Shaw, and using their high speed router which is a SMCD3GN. Using the mydlink.com sign in page, I have color and sound (which I also have with the MyDlink Lite Android App). However using the remote sign in, the guest gets black and white, a very choppy video and no sound. I have gone through multiple settings to try and fix this, and so far have been unsuccessful.

It's extremely difficult for me to troubleshoot this with DLink themselves, as I am at work for the entire time their call center is open.

My camera is connected via WiFi, I have the latest firmware installed, and I did poke around here (and our overlord Google) on the forums looking for clues but so far no dice.

This is kind of frustrating for a camera I spent $200 on. I am using the HTTP connection protocol, should I be using another?

It doesn't appear this site is very busy, so I hope somebody can offer some insight before I get fed up and take it back. I have already contacted the store I bought it at, and explained my issues, and they said they would offer me a store credit at the very least. I would prefer to just get this working, but I may be forced upon another route.

Can you describe how are you trying to sign in remotely? Are you using a url?

Using http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:port#/video1.mjpg works for me.

Hmm I never had them add the video.mpg extension.maybe ill have them try that. I just gave them my IP address and they got to the login screen, signed in successfully and  it looks almost like my advanced setting panel from their end, except of course they have no access to the settings buttons.

I was advised by tech support to ensure day mode was enabled and not auto, which I will try tonight. Also advised to have them check for a Listen button and to ensure that is enabled as well. They suggested lowering my resolution to accommodate a faster frame rate.

I'll try all that when I get home from work, and maybe it will work. In either case, I will report my findings.

The black and white video/images are likely due to your camera being in Night Mode when your Guest account accessed the camera. The night vision is the only way the camera will transmit black and white images/video.

Navigate the Web UI to ADVANCED > ICR and IR > ICR. If Automatic is selected, the camera will cut over to Night Mode in low light conditions. If Night Mode is selected, then the camera will persistently stay in Night Mode.

Since you personally viewed DCS-2132L images/video color, while others have viewed the camera in black and white, I presume the camera is set to Automatic (or perhaps Schedule Mode), and the camera happened to be in Night Mode every time you logged in as a guest.

If your image/video frame size and FPS are maxed out and your wireless strength is somewhat constrained, there is a good chance that the bottlenecks are your network rather than the camera. For initial testing you may want to place the camera close to your router and incrementally extend the range to see how the unit behaves with distance.
