Streamboost interferes with Windows File Sharing
« on: August 14, 2013, 01:23:51 PM »

I posted this over in the DAP-1525 forum thinking the issue was with my bridge:

http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=55196.0

It turns out enabling Streamboost causes filesharing between computers to be throttled down to < 100KB/s.  When it's turned off files copy at normal speeds.  There's nothing abnormal about my setup and all machines are Win7 or Win8.  Has anybody else had this problem?

Can you test with SB ON and ABE ON and OFF?

I'll run my bridge test at home as I'm seeing some odd behavior with a DIR-868L and 865L in bridge mode.

Results:

SB On + ABE On: Has issue
SB On + ABE Off: Has issue
SB Off: No issue

(I don't think I can have ABE on w/o SB)

Thanks.

Any just to add to this, I tested with SB fully OFF in the following configurations:
2.4Ghz, WPA2/AES Only
Xbox 1 connected to a DIR-868L in bridge mode - BO2 game status reported Moderate NAT
Xbox 2 connected to a DIR-865L in bridge mode - BO2 game status reported OPEN NAT

Switched to 5Ghz, WPA2/AES Only
Xbox 1 connected to DIR-868L in bridge mode - BO2 game status reported OPEN NAT, game play was 3 yellow bars.
Xbox 2 connected to DIR-865L in bridge mode - BO2 game status reported OPEN NAT, game play was 3 yellow bars.

Switched to a DIR-857 as main host router.
Xbox 1 connected to DIR-868L in bridge mode - BO2 game status reported OPEN NAT, Will test game play status later.
Xbox 2 connected to DIR-865L in bridge mode - BO2 game status reported OPEN NAT, Will test game play status later.

Both bridges are reporting 450Mb Wifi connections on the 857 status page.

I have SB [ON] ABE [ON] and just copied 2gb across the network at 120MB/s.    It didn't even register on active devices page - probably because it doens't pass through NAT.

I have been testing the router (not connecting it to a WAN connection) and have had no issues with data transfers.  I transferred files from a win 8 machine to a server and the speeds were good

Thanks for the test input.

This could be related to using a DAP with the 5500 as both xfrost and I are seeing some odd behavior in using external APs with this unit.

One test xfrost could do, disable the DAP temporarily as a test and re-run a direct LAN wired connection and see if the speed results differ with SB ON and OFF.

The issue only exists between machines on either side of the bridge.  Last night the problem came back even with SB and ABE turned off, so I disabled the IPv6 on all the computers on the network and the problem appeared to go away.  So either the fix has to do w/ rebooting the router, or a problem with IPv6 on my LAN.  I don't need IPv6 anyways so I'll leave it off for now.

I might guess it could be IPv6. Since the DGL series doesn't support IPv6, your PC could be sending out IPv6 packets. We saw similar issues on the 4500 as I recall. I don't think the DAP supports IPv6 either.

If you have turned OFF IPv6, please test with SB and ABE ON and test again.

Keep us posted.

Awesome, will have to keep this in mind for users with IPv6 enabled devices.  :-\

one word - BELKIN  :D ----They don't have these issues!   ;D

WHOA!  JUST KIDDING!  I think "BELKIN" is a swear word on these forums, so hopefully I don't get banned by the moderators!

Thanks for the info FURRY!  Good to know as I will be replacing my 857 with the 868L later today.  Still waiting for FedEx to deliver.
