For the love of god, I cannot make my server which is made with apache 2.4.x installed on my Windows 7 available to the public using dyndns service with my router. But it does work if I ONLY use my zoomx4 modem. So i've been wondering what did I miss because I'm beginning to think the DIR-501 is missing a feature which prevents it from hosting a server which is possible with my ****py dsl modem.

So here is the hardware details of that:

OS: Windows 7
Modem : Zoom x4
Router : D-link DIR-501 firmware 1.01
2 pc's connect to the router.

I started by installing the apache on my windows and started it up...if I connect to it locally it works correctly, I see the "It Works" message. It also works from another computer inside my network if he types my ip address. But if someone outside like on the Internet types my external ip address it wont work at all. Also tested using this website "http://www.websitepulse.com/" and it wont work as well.

So i've tried port forward, put my pc on DMZ, reduce and remove security and nothing wont work. It still works inside my network but not from outside... external Ip address seems to not be available.

Not knowing what was going on I did a small test, i removed my router and only connected the modem and my friend was able to access my website using my dyndns address. I decided to reconnect my router back and guess what...nothing worked. I did a hard reset on it and did all through the security feature including the port forward and nothing works.

So I know my router is at fault. my apache server is working, my OS aint the problem since when I use the modem is only connected on it, it works, To me it MUST be the router.

I've done some research and I'm told in an obscure internet forum that my dlink DIR-501 might not support NAT traversal or something similar. In other words, it wont allow computers to connect to external IP address.

So i'm trying to understand if theres a solution to that router if I missed something like a configuration.

I could buy another router but I need to explore everything option with this router first. (and yes I do need a router so only working with 1 modem only is out of the question)

Additional Details
I'm using dyndns service which gives me a "static" address so the dynamic ip address is not a problem. Even if I try it with my ip address it gives me the same results

It's also been tested on my filezilla ftp server which I tried with port 21 and port 2100 just for kicks and nothing works.

My MTU is setup as 1432 as i've done the ping test by the way. Done all that crap above with the default mtu of 1500.

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations

• What ISP Modem service link speeds UP and Down do you have?
• If this modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems: Link>Double NAT and How NAT Works. To tell if the modem is bridged or not, look at the routers web page, Status/Device Info/Wan Section, if there is a 192.168.0.# address in the WAN IP address field, then the modem is not bridged. If the modem can't be bridged then see if the modem has a DMZ option and input the IP address the router gets from the modem and put that into the modems DMZ.
• Check ISP MTU requirements, Cable is usually 1500, DSL is around 1492 down to 1472. Call the ISP and ask. Link>Checking MTU Values
• For DSL/PPPoE connections on the router, ensure that "Always ON" option is enabled.

Router and Wired Configurations
Some things to try: - Log into the routers web page at 192.168.0.1. Use IE, Opera or FF to manage the router.

• Turn off ALL QoS or Disable Traffic Shaping (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options, Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel.
• Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual or under Setup/PARENTAL CONTROL/Set to>None: Static IP or Obtain Automatically From ISP.
• Enable Use Unicasting (compatibility for some ISP DHCP Servers) under Setup/Internet/Manual.
• Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking. Link>Finding Faster DNS Addresses using Name Bench
• Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking. This ensures each devices gets its own IP address when turned on and connected, eliminates IP address conflicts and helps in troubleshooting.
• Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
• If IPv6 is an option on the router, select Local Connection Only or Disable IPv6 options under Setup/IPv6.
• Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall. Enable or Disable SPI to test.
• Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking. Disable uPnP for testing Port Forwarding rules. Enable IPv6 Multi-cast Streaming for routers that have a Media Server option. Disable IPv6 Multi-cast Streaming if IPv6 or Media Server is not being used.
• Turn off WISH, and WPS under Advanced.
• WAN Port Speed set to Auto or specific speed? Some newer ISP modems support 1000Mb so manually setting to Gb speeds can be supported by the router. Advanced/Advanced Networking/WAN Port Speed
• Set current Time Zone, Date and Time. Use an NTP Server feature. Tools/Time.
