DCS 2332 administrator question
« on: September 19, 2013, 10:09:32 PM »

New user of security cameras so I apologize if I'm missing something in the user guide but I cannot seem to set an administrator password and user list. I belong to club of 80 people and I want to set up the camera so the 80 members can view the live video but cannot change any setting such as audio on/off, motion detection, etc. Is this possible? Thanks

So to add a little more info...I went to the advanced settings page, under maintenance, admin, added a new password and tried to add a new user. Page did countdown, said it loaded but still no users listed on user drop down menu. Also on settings tab page, it shows an old password and is not updated with the new password I now use to enter the mydlink logon page to see the camera. Camera works fine but totally confused on how to set up this thing to provide viewing only privileges to users and configuration privileges to an administrator (me).  ???

Finally got thru on phone support after a half hour wait and they said I should try to access the settings page from the same network the camera is on (I have been trying to do this from home which is not where the camera is located). So I will try that Monday. I thought the ads stated you could change things remotely. Maybe you have to set up the administrator password locally?  I would love to know if anybody else has tried to set up administrator and users from a different wifi network than the camera is on.

I successfully created new user accounts through mydlink on the DCS-932L and DCS-931L through the Advanced button which opens the DCS-9XXL web UI in a new window (i.e. through the procedure you described below).

Even if you create those accounts locally, how do you intend to provide access to the other 80 or so users that you reference? Your mydlink account will only support the one administrative login ID that you have associated to your camera. The only way to utilize the additional user accounts is to expose the camera to the web and permit direct access via IP.

Thanks for your reply JavaLawyer. I was finally able to create user accounts, and some of the other advanced setting options, when I accessed the camera directly (using URL 192.168.1.whatever, when I was at the camera location). Couldn't do it remotely in the mydlink advanced settings UI although it looked like it was saving the info.

I enlisted the help of a computer wiz friend who was able to get into the clubs website and set up something to do with ports which allows us to now get into the camera remotely via a link. Password restricted users and everything else seems to be working great now. Part of my confusion was the fact that I didn't know the mydlink access path would not work for guests (view only) and just works for the administrator. There's no product info that I found which explains any of this.

Correct, port forwarding providing direct access to the camera is the only easy method of utilizing the other user accounts you created. I'm glad everything worked out for you.
