For the first 2 weeks of owning the DIR-655, I was getting an automatic connection when booting windoes.  Now I am not. I have to go into the Network Connections, click on disable, then enable for the connection to happen. Two days ago I changed the RWIN and some other settings in the registry.  Yesterday, I got the connection automatically. Could changing the RWIN and other settings be the problem?

I am not familiar with RWIN or these other settings, however I would not hesitate to suggest that it is a very strong possibility.  If that was truly the only change then it would have a cause->effect relationship, however with a modern computer it's hard to argue that something is the only change.

D-Link does not suggest or support playing with the registry.

Did you change/disable any of your services?

I actually played with fire twice. The first time I f*cked with the registery the connection went into the toilet.  I could barely connect. For some reason I tried it again. But the people that were giving me the advice on what to change seemed to know what they were doing.  I would really like to improve my connection.

If you are running XP, there is an "administrative tools" section which has a "services" section that is being referred to.

WZC stands for Wireless Zero Configuration which is the service that windows uses to control the wireless functions on your computer.
