I've just installed a new DNS-320 HW version A1 with the latest firmware 2.3 with a WD Caviar Green
WD20EARX and a WD Caviar Green WD20EARS. After several attempts to set it up in RAID1, I found out the setup process always ends into STANDARD mode instead.
I've seen both WD green drives on the compatibility list for the DNS HW A2 version, but not on the A1 version which lists only the WD20EARS
http://www.dlink.com/-/media/Consumer_Products/DNS/DNS%20320/Add_files/DNS_320_Compatibility_List_20111004_EN_UK.pdf - Does the fact I have the A1 version matters ?
- Does the fact I have two slightly different drive models matter ?
The most intriguing feature is the so called "Advanced Formatting" (AF) from Western Digital. It is told not to be compatible with the DLink NAS, but WD20EARS and a few others listed on the compatibility list are equipped with Advanced Formatting (see http://www.wdc.com/wdproducts/library/SpecSheet/ENG/2879-701229.pdf) so DLink AF not supported warning is not consistent with the compatibiliy list... go figure !!!
