Re: Help please - Firmware update failure

Hello All, I am new to this forum, infact any forum.

I'll be completely honest I tried to update brand new 5222L via wifi, I have since seen how many different
places it tells you not to.

Now I either get Solid Red light no link light or if I power up with toothpick in reset I get Solid link light
after red light goes out.

Cannot connect to camera with wizard etc.

Is there really no way to fix this? Please help?

Thanks

  • Download the latest firmware + Setup Wizard from the mydlink.com/support website
  • Perform a factory reset on the DCS-5222L - While the DCS-5222L is powered up, press and hold the recessed reset button using a paperclip for > 9 seconds
  • Plug the DCS-5222L to one of your router's rear ports
  • Look up the IP address of the DCS-5222L in your router web UI
  • Log into the DCS-5222L using a web browser of a PC wired to your LAN
  • Upgrade the DCS-5222L firmware using the file downloaded in step one on your local PC
  • DCS-5222L should reboot
  • Run the Wizard software

JavaLawyer

Firstly, Thank you very much for your reply.

I followed your instructions very carefully but no luck, No Matter what I do
I cannot get an Ip Address for the camera, either in the list on the router or even
using my IP scanner software.

I power up 5222L and the power light goes solid red immediately and the camera does it little routine
of moving around 180 degrees, no amount of resetting changes the solid red light or makes the 5222L IP
visible. I tried the 9 second reset both before and after 180 spin.

I also powered up while holding the reset, This gives a flashing red light during 180 spin but once head has re centered the red light disappears and the green link light comes on solid, again however no IP address.

As a last resort I set the IP range on router from 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.0.3 thinking that if the router is 1 and the computer was 2 then the camera had to be 192.168.0.3, but nothing.

The remote control still works on the arrows and the home, but thats all.

Do you think this is a lost cause?

Thanks

I originally started with my new Apple Airport Extreme, but when the fixes you suggested
wouldn't work, I switched over to my D-Link DIR-632 so that I could confine to just my Macbook Pro
and the 5222L, everything else here is wifi and was still connected to Airport Extreme.

Thanks

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

Is the Mac Book getting an IP address?
You can check to see whats connected to the 632 by logging into the routers web page and going to Status/Device Info and look at Setup/Networking/Dynamic Clients list. You should see both Mac Book and DCS listed. Do a factory reset on the router and check again for IPs. Let the DHCP range as default.

Try swapping cables between the router and DCS to be sure with a known good working cable.

Thanks, I will try this out later and get back with you.

I can confirm a few things

Router Hardware VA1

Macbook was getting IP address and I switched cables around with same result

Would you recommend I update firmware on router if available, or just tell you what version and await
reply?

I will reset Router and let DHCP range go back to default.

I'm thinking there's something wrong with the DCS...if the Mac is getting an IP address and the DCS isn't...that's got to be the problem.

All I can confirm is it was working for the first few minutes until I updated Firmware over wifi.

Is there anyway to load firmware onto micro sd and have it update from there?

Will D-Link replace it, even though I updated firmware over wifi?

If your network connection broke during a firmware upload, it's very possible the camera was rendered inoperable. At present, I can confirm that D-Link has no self-help options that could fix a camera under these circumstances. If this is the case with your DCS-5222L, then a replacement (via RMA) is your only option. There are many circumstances in which a network connection could fail during a firmware upload: loose Ethernet cable, power loss to router, loose power cord on the DCS-5222L, router crash/freeze, etc. Any of these events would have the same results as a failed wireless firmware upload.
