USB Copy Button not copying drive contents?
« on: October 29, 2017, 09:04:00 AM »

hey all, this might be a silly question (because i bet the answer is right in front of me), but for some reason i can't initiate a USB drive copy with the button on the back of the NAS- according to the manual, press the button for ~ 1 to 3 seconds, which i've done, but nothing happens.. if i hold the button for longer then the USB drive unmounts.  i've also tried just pressing the button without holding it down, and holding it down for 1, 2 and 3 seconds.

i know the drive is mounted because it shows the USB drive details and unmount button in the web gui.  i did use the copy button successfully in the past, however the NAS was on an older firmware version at the time (currently using v1.05); did anything change with the copy button with this firmware release?  or maybe i'm just doing something wrong?

the 4 GB and 60 GB were recently formatted as FAT32, the 60 GB being formatted specifically for testing.

Can you power OFF the DNS, plug in the USB drive then power ON the DNS and see if it detects it?

Only other thing I can think of is to factory reset the DNS and test again. If this fails, I presume maybe something happend in the recent FW version...
You could go back to prior working version and see if the drives are detected....

as far as i can tell, the DNS does detect the USB drive- it shows up in the web gui, front panel light is lit when it's connected, light goes out when the unmount button is held down for 5 seconds etc, it's just the 1-3 second hold of that button that doesn't seem to work now to start the copy process..

i thought about restoring an older firmware version but not sure where to download the file(s) from?  last i checked i think the support page for this DNS only has the newest and beta versions of the firmware..

update: i've tried power cycling the DNS, powering it on with the USB drive connected and resetting the DNS to factory default settings, no luck using the copy button with two different USB drives, 60 GB and 500 GB- no response from the DNS unless i hold the button down long enough to unmount the USB drives.  i'm stumped.

i thought about restoring an older firmware version but figured if that is in fact the culprit then it's not worth keeping the DNS on older firmware for the sake of a button that i'll likely not have a use for beyond this instance.

May not be the button rather USB drive detection could be an issue. Up to you though.

Good Luck.

if i did decide to restore an older firmware version, this would not affect the RAID1 array or the data on it, correct?
