DNS-323 Printer server issue with Windows 8
« on: November 26, 2013, 11:18:17 AM »

I have a Canon iP4850 set up as a printer server via DNS-323 that works fine with XP and W7 but will not work with W8.

The printer works fine via a direct USB cable and W8.

The DNS-323 uses firmware 1.09, version 1.10 fails to print with any of the operating systems.

When set up with W8 the "Hardware" tab under printer properties impies that it is set up correctly. Furthermore when one tries to print a test page it still comes up the "A test page has been sent to your printer"!

I have tried to reconfigue the directly linked USB setting to print via the server but this approach is not feasible.

Any suggests would be welcome.

This is a win 8 problem of some sort.  A print server just takes what the computer sends and passes that on to the printer - that is all.

It sounds as if the win 8 firewall is blocking the print que being sent to the print server.  The fact the printer works when directly connected only tell you that you have the correct drivers NOT that you have setup a network printer.

To get the correct settings you have to setup the printer as a NETWORK printer (where you find that in win 8 I don't know, but that is what we had to do for a client who was using win 7 and it set the necessary firewall permissions as well) and not a local one.
