DNS-321 Not found using Easy Search - Problem Solved
« on: December 23, 2013, 04:37:23 PM »

This topic was covered but nothing posted helped me. Maybe I am clueless and/or my issues were different.

I bought a DNS-321 years ago and finally go around to trying it.
I have XP SP3.

The tests below were done with a direct DNS-321 ethernet connection to my PC and/or the DNS-321 connected to the router.  I cannot remember all combinations.

Taking it apart looking for loose connections did not help.
Easy search did not work.
Windows mapping software did not work.
Pinging 198.168.0.32 did not work
Pinging by name dlink-xxxxxx did not work.
Resetting DNS-321 did not work.
Turning off firewall did not work.
Trying from a Windows 7 machine did not work.

I had the DNS-321 connected to the Comcast Cable router.
Finally, I went to control panel->networking and internet->view network computers and devices
I found the Comcast cable router and logged in.
I went to "connected devices."
I noticed that dlink-xxxxxx (xxxxxx is the last 4 of MAC address) was listed under off-line devices.
This was the first indication that the DNS-321 existed on the network.
I clicked on properties.
It said ipv4 address was 10.0.0.7
I entered 10.0.0.7 into my browser
The dns-321 login screen came up.
I entered user name admin and left PW blank
I was logged in to the DNS-321.
Everything worked after that.

NOW the easy search utility shows the DNS-321, after I no longer need it.
