Help - Some issues for a new user
« on: October 28, 2013, 09:21:09 AM »

Hi everybody!

I just bought a DNS-320LW a couple of days ago and I'm facing some issues. First of all let me say I'm Mac user and that I have upgraded to FW 1.02 (date 29/3/2013). Also, I apologize in advance if any of these have already been answered in another thread.

1) I've docked 2 HHDs WD 2TB each, with no problem. Before that, I had connected one of them on the usb port in order to copy its files, again with no problem. But now that I connected another 2.5 TB WD external HDD I can't see its contents. The usb drive is mounted by the NAS as shown in Management->USB Devices and the LED being blue. But it doesn't show in My Files nor in Disk Management. Is it because of its size? Doesn't the NAS recognize >2TB usb drives? If I partition it to smaller partitions will it be ok?

2) I need someone to explain to me how the media server works. I've enabled UPnP AV Server, added a folder with movies (mkv and avi), which is also shared in Account Management->Network Shares, and refreshed. Also tested UPnP and it's working. Through PS3 and a WD media player I can see the server and three folders: Videos, Photos, Music but each of them says that these folders are empty. How are these folders populated? Let me say that some pictures included in the shared folder (DVD covers) are shown in My Pictures application. Also, I can access my files as a network share in WD media player, just not through the media server.

3) Safari doesn't work well with the web interface. It doesn't show the drives in Disk Management->Hard Drive Configuration (and so you can't format them and configure RAID), My Files, My Pictures etc. don't show the files and stuff like that. I'm currently managing the NAS through firefox, which works just fine, but I'd really like to be able to do it with Safari.

Thank you!
