Maybe just a bad unit. I just set up one of these any my inlaws place after xmas. Works well there. Not a bad unit. Keep us posted. Glad to be of help.

i got another router instead (different brand) and it works perfectly.. so it might have been a bad unit

Either take the 636L back for refund or if you can't, contact D-Link support and get an RMA. Sorry this one didn't work for you.  :-\
