slow speeds!
« on: January 21, 2014, 11:38:10 AM »

only getting 14-16mbs transfer speeds on my DNS-325, Raid1 with 2 x Seagate 3TB NAS HDD SATA III w/ 64MB Cache. router switch is 1GB, computer I am transferring between has 1GB network card with SATA II hard drive. Reviews say that they get 30-35mbs transfer rate but I'm no where near that! Help!

To rule out the DNS-325, try performing a file transfer between the DNS-325 and another PC.

tried a friends with i7 processor and the speed increased to 33-35mbs from NAS to computer, 22-23 computer to NAS. tried a different line and got the same speeds on mine. what are the proper transfer speeds for the DNS-325??

Things to try: swap out the Ethernet cable connecting your DNS-325 to your LAN and cable between your PC and LAN. To rule out your router as an issue, you can try connecting the DNS-325 to a dedicated switch (apart from your router). Although I don't specifically own the DNS-325, I keep my four ShareCenters (DNS-343/345) on a dedicated switch to isolate traffic. I've also found that adding the switch has improved throughput performance between my ShareCenters and PCs.

The latest numbers you are presenting are not unreasonable and are in the range of what others are reporting. I'm sure you'll find DNS-325 owners with higher throughput, as there are exceptions depending on network configuration and other variables.

Below is a thread with some user-collected metrics for the DNS-320. The DNS-320 is not as powerful as the DNS-325, but it was released around the same time as the DNS-325 and should give some idea of what a lower-end model should deliver:

DNS-320 Example Speeds

D-Link Consumer NAS
Low End: DNS-320 (Next gen: DNS-320L)
Middle: DNS-325 (Next gen: DNS-327L)
High End: DNS-345 (Next gen: ?)
