Android App. Blocking. Is it possible?
« on: February 07, 2014, 11:39:02 AM »

Good day all-

I have a DIR-615 router and was wondering if it's possible to block certain app's on an Android device via the router.

Assigning website/URL domains isn't working.
I'm guessing the app's use a certain ports, and thus they may have to be blocked?

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

PS.... FurryNutz thanks for your help on my last issue.

Took your advice and upgraded my modem, Motorola SB6141. ;)

What I presume they would be using ports and you'd have to find a port scanner or information on what ports the Apps use. I presume it's possible to find that info with the MFr of the App. Not sure.

Glad you got the modem going. Motorola's are good modems.  ;)

Thanks Furry, it has made a difference, after my ISP resolved some issues on their end.  :D

I've been doing some digging and this posts suggests that the YouTube app (which is what I'm trying to block also) uses HTTP & HTTPS. Though I have a filter for that domain for that device it still loads and plays.

Am I on the right road?

Thanks for your tireless effort on the boards here.

Yes I think so...good information. Thanks for sharing.

Keep us posted on how it works for you and if you find any configurations that work.

Good Luck.
