Is FTP the only way to access the information (data stored) on the DNS-323 over the internet or is there another way? I was hoping there was a way to access the information just by using an internet browser without having to use some FTP utility... any ideas would be appreciated.

Your choices are ftp - or - cifs/smb over some sort of vpn connection.

Just in case you're not aware of it, you can retrieve files using ftp and your internet browser, and there are ftp utilities with an "explorer" style user interface.

I am a litte confused and not sure I understand you but you can use almost any browser by just entering the ftp address in the same place as the http address goes and you should be good to go and get an user / password window to popup and then access your data.  You do have to enable the ftp server and probably should set up a ddns account to make this work.  I guess I am just not sure if you are objecting to the FTP client software like FileZilla or whatever.  There is limited ftp client access with almost every browser.  Again, not sure exactly what you are trying to do.  Hope this helps.  Good luck

How do you setup the ftp access using filezilla?

Harry, here is my filezilla settings

add the ip address of your router.  The public ipaddress.  you can get this from googling "whats my ip address"

the port default is 21.

make sure port 21 is open on your router and then it should work.

If you want to get fancy, set up a dlinkdns server so that you dont have to update your ip address.

I also set up a username and password on my dlink dns323 control panel.  For some reason I had to set to 2 connections in the ftp server for it to work.

Thank you, i figured out how to use filezilla with the dns-323

You can also map a ftp folder in the windows file explorer so that it appears as a regular drive. 

Map drive
Put Ip # and then it will ask for the username and password.  Then it shows up on file explorer and you can create a desktop icon.
