The best wifi router for wifi camera
« on: November 10, 2013, 08:58:22 AM »

Hi everybody!
I have purchased 4 DCS-2130 IP camera and I don't find the best wifi (gigabit) router for my video surveillance system. The DCS 2130 has a Wireless N at 2.4 Ghz but most of the router have dual band (2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz). The 5 Ghz band is useless for me. The question is: what is the best router for me? I should not purchase dual band router because I don't want spend money for useless technology (a lot of money!!).

Thanks,
Maurizio

What options are available?

Can you even buy anything that isn't used with 2.4 ghz only?

You at least need something with UpNp support.

The DIR-636L and DIR-655 Rev B ("Rev B" is new recently released Hardware version) are good 2.4 GHz consumer class routers.  You also need to factor in the resolution you use for the four cameras -- the DCS-2130 supports 1280x800 @30 FPS -- multiply that times 4 and you have quite a lot of bandwidth to manage if you max out the router settings.  Also keep in mind that wireless throughput attenuates with distance, another factor to consider when evaluating routers.

I believe JavaLawyer's information is incorrect about the DIR-655 Rev B that recently released:  ::)

I would get a dual band router if your access/testing mobile device is dual band.  Then view and test wireless from upper band with all cameras on lower band.  Better thruput ect.
