FINAL SPEC RELEASE - INFO

FINAL SPEC INFO

-Will the dir-655 be able to use firmware to final spec?
-Does anybody know what the call is for 802.11n using 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz band?
-Anybody know date when 802.11n will be finalized?  "802.11n is expected to be approved by IEEE-SA RevCom in November 2009,[2][3] although many "Draft N" products are already available" -WIKI
Thx in advance!

3. November 2009 - Feb/March 2010
Note: the final N will most probably not differ a lot from the draft 2.0. So no new things or speed gains to be expected.
2. Don't understand what your question is...
1. Only Dlink knows (but will not tell probably). Taking 3. into account there is not much difference/gain I assume.

"Insider" info is not usually shared on a public user's board.

My "guess" would be:  Who really knows!!!!!!!!!!

The DIR routers tend to have several hardware revisions during their "product life span."  So, if you have a previous hardware version (aka rev.A) and the the Draft N is ratified, it is more likely that the "current" shipping hardware version "may" get a firmware update to the 11n "ratified" standard.

As long as there are not a lot of changes to the N code there's a big chance we will get a final specs N firmware. But there will be no more new hardware revisions and we just hope that the 655 hasn't gone to EOL before the final specs.

if dual band N is the final spec then the 655 is out of luck no?  it just does not have the radio for dual band.

Don't worry  :)

As far as I read, nearly every draft N device will be capable of 11N as there are no major changes anymore which require new hardware.
Doesn't matter whether only 2,4 GHz only or dual band.

But I hope they hurry up with 11N, otherwise the following specifications will be finalized earlier  ::)
