no connection for all devices connected through switch
« on: December 04, 2014, 09:37:48 AM »

I have just purchased the 868L to replace my plusnet fibre router in UK, I had a netgear GS108 switch on previous router with various devices connected without issue, once I had completed setup of internet on 868L, all looked good, connected netgear switch to ethernet port on 868L and nothing. None of the devices on switch had connection, and I could not see any of the devices on DHCP reservation list?

Now I am not that technically minded, but I thought just taking all ethernet cables from old router and transferring to new router, setting up internet and off i go?

connected as modem->router->switch->devices

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under the router case.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.

Remove the switch from the configuration. Connect up any of the wired devices directly to the router. Do they work then?

Hi, you might try just rebooting both the switch and the router, first try powering up the switch first and then the router.  If that doesn't work try reversing the power on order.  Wait a minute or 2 between devices before powering on again.

h/w version A1 F/W ver 1.07
firmware was on 1.08, updated to 1.09,

I tried a laptop which worked fine directly, and also a small pc which was in next room but wired, this did not work directly.

Will try rebooting and powering up in different order.

thanks

Maybe the switch. Let us know...

Was a factory reset performed before and after sending the FW update?

Hi, had another thought...were your computers / devices setup to use static IP's by any chance.  Check them all to make sure that they are setup to "obtain IP address automatically."
Try to use a different ethernet port on the router and / or the switch.

It was mentioned that he got one pc to connect ditectly to the router while the other behind the switch didnt. I presume his IP is working at the direct connection point. Good thought though...

I had the exact same thing happen to me.  I had to back rev the firmware all the way to 1.01.  I've been afraid to upgrade firmware since.  Have you had any luck solving your problem.  I sure would like to upgrade firmware to get up to date.

Mines on the latest version for the NA region and is working fine here. What do you have connected to the LAN ports?

I have  2 dlink switches connected directly to the 868L.  One goes to my office and the other to my basement.  It's been awhile (over a year) since I encountered the problem so it's hard to remember the exact symptoms.  But as I recall, all devices attached to switches did not see the network.  Wireless devices were fine.  I have not tried any firmware above 1.04 because what I have is working.  But it would be nice to get the router up to current software level.  It does not seem to be a switch hardware problem since when using firmware 1.01 everything works fine.  But, it's always bothered me that I could not figure it out.  Also, this network configuration was also running fine when I used my old wireless router.  A DLink DIR-655.  I switched because I wanted to start using the AC capabilities.

What MFr and model are these switches?

Do wired connected devices work directly connected to the routers back ports with out the switches when the most current FW is loaded?
