Must restart/reboot router every week
« on: June 15, 2009, 08:26:08 PM »

Every Sunday morning the kids tell me they cannot connect to the internet.  The wireless network is functioning, they just don't have access outside the house.  I reboot and then it works for them.
What is odd is that I don't have an issue from my laptop or from a ethernet connected PC when they have the issue.
The kids have HP desktops with built in wireless G connectivity.
I have a HP Pavilion dv6 laptop with N connectivity.
The third HP desktop connects to the router via a ethernet cable.

Any thoughts?  I was thinking of automating the restart somehow.

I had a similar problem with a different modem in my winter home in Florida and I ended up putting a timer on it and had it reboot at 3 AM every morning when everyone was asleep.

It might be a problem with the ISP service????  I have seen some ISP providers that will "force" a "broadband" modem to disconnect if they determine it was inactive too long.  You may want to adjust the inactivity "timer" and set up a reconnect interval.

The issue is already isolated. You can try update the NIC driver.

There is an option in the router if your setting it to a PPPoE, try set the Reconnect Mode to Always On. You may post the router logs here so we could see the activity on your router when it disconnects.

My 615 will stop assigning proper IP addresses after a day or so. My wired connections stay just fine, but my G Macbook Pro and iPhone both won't reconnect and show real DHCP assigned info until I restart the router.
