My DNR-322L is undercooked
« on: May 28, 2014, 08:01:45 AM »

This product is a classic example of a company releasing something that should still be in Beta (or even Alpha).  I have been struggling to get this working properly for days.  I've added all the cameras but that's about it.  So far the show stoppers are:
1) Can't get it to record, which is kind of why one buys a NVR.  I setup schedules and everything, but none of the cameras record.  The record button is grayed out because...
2) Software isn't fully compatible with modern browsers (IE11, Chrome, Firefox).  I have had the best luck with IE, and I can get the missing tabs in the config apps to show up using compatibility mode - BUT - if I turn it on and go to the playback tab where the rec button is - IE crashes with a Microsoft Visual C++ runtime error.
3) None of my DCS-5010L cameras work.  I got them all to connect once by using specific settings, but when I tried to configure them further through the DNR-322L they all dropped again and never re-connect.

I'm about ready to return this to New Egg.  Very disappointing.

PS - before you ask, the first thing I did was update the firmware on the DNR and all cameras (especially since they seemed to release it with some major security flaws).  I'm running the firmware released in December from Oct. 15.

These posts "may" help as they are applicable to the DNR-322L as well as the D-Link Cloud camera product lines:

Thank you for the reply, bit getting JAVA working was the first hurdle I cleared.
As stated, already tried compatibility mode, it blows up when you click on the live-view tab.  I spent an entire afternoon reinstalling various Visual C++ 2005 redistributable packages.  I'd rather not roll back my browser, but that may get a try next.

But none of that explains why the scheduled record won't record or why the PTZ cams don't connect.

I rolled back to IE10, same issue - as soon as you install the ActiveX control I get an MS Visual C++ error.  I will try removing EVERY redistributable (2005, 2008, 2010, etc.) and see if that helps, I'm sure it will screw up other things on my computer though... very annoying.

I queried D-Link about this issue some time ago based on member questions and here was the original response I received back from D-Link

There may be a Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package issues. I would suggest uninstalling the C++ package reboot and run the installation again to see if it would fix the issue with the button not displaying. We had to do this to at least one machine in our test bed.

I tried removing the MS Visual C++ 2005 Redistribs multiple time, reset IE config, reboot, etc.  No luck, still crashes on Live Video tab, still cannot record, still cannot connect to the 5010's.

I'm pretty much through with this $%&^*.  After two days of trying to clear all the Visual C++ redistribs and reinstall, I tried another computer - same error.  Clearly there is an issue with the software on the device.  I reset the factory specs, no dice.

I think I'll toss this in a closet for a few months and wait to see if DLink releases some more mature fw.  If not, onto eBay.

Did you try accessing the DNS-322L from a different PC on your LAN?

I rolled back to FW 1.4 and I could access live view and all the settings without problem.  Re-upgraded to 2.0, IE still crashes.  Seems clear a glitch with the software, not with my computer.

I may try FW 1.5 since 1.4 had those major security flaws.  Still doubt the 5010's will work though, 2.0's release notes say they were only added in that version.

I hope DLink monitors these forums so they know they have some major issues with these devices...

I am forwarding this thread to my contact at D-Link for review and will post back if I hear anything.

Thanks.

So here is the latest update - I went to Firmware 1.50 Beta (which seems to be 1.40 with the security fixes).  Everything is now working fine (with comparability mode turned of on IE 11 btw) EXCEPT I cannot connect to the PTZ cams (5010Ls).  I'm going through to see if I can find a similar model that I can trick it to connect to them as, even if I lose the PTZ functionality, I am fine with that.  I manage the cams from the Android MyDLink+ app anyway.

Hey - I got good news.  I'm finally up and running on FW 1.50.
I had to connect to the 5010's as 932's.  I lost some functionality, some settings don't display properly (but they seem to get applied to the camera) and the sound was messed up so I disabled it.  But it appears like everything is connected and recording and I can manage through IE without MS Visual C++ errors.

I think they have some more QA to do on that 2.0 firmware.

Thanks for posting your workaround. The D-Link ShareCenter My Surveillance add-on has a similar workaround for non-supported cameras. Using My Surveillance, the DCS-930 has to be selected to coax the application into recognizing newer model Cloud cameras that are not yet supported. This is how I added my DCS-5020L to My Surveillance - the Live feed works, but the PTZ controls are unavailable.

I am having this exact same problem - every time I open my DNR-322L it goes to the liveview tab, and then crashes with an IEXPLORE.EXE runtime error.

I'll see if FW 1.5 fixes it and report back.
