router hanging
« on: June 29, 2014, 12:10:43 AM »

help,
new to the forum so hope this post is going to the right place..... i have a dsl-2880al, and before that i had a netgear modem/router. the problem i have up until this time i have been putting on my ISP, but i am starting to believe my current and previous routers are (I'm hoping its the right term) hanging!?  it seems everytime my router has been under a heavy work load Streaming/downloading etc my internet connection is very poor.  even when all those are shut down there is no improvement but if i completely exit bit torrent, close my web  browsers and reboot router, all seems fine again.  So, my question is how do i eliminate the need of having to restart everything to keep a constant connection to my router?? When i look at the stats in the router the data rate is always around 18mbps, but when i do speed test after downloading or streaming big files my connection will be 2mbps and under.....

i am running
acer laptop i.5, 8GB ram, Nivida geforce 710m graphics card
modem/router connected to a buffalo 16TB NAS
4 port ethernet switch running 4 wd media players
i don't know if that helps, but please any ideas would be great

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your modem? Look at sticker under modem.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the modems web page under status.
  • What region are you located?
  • What ISP Modem service link speeds UP and Down do you have?
