Initial set up won't accept default password
« on: July 15, 2014, 01:28:50 PM »

Hi,

I've turned on my new sharepoint, and can see the device in the initial set up. When i get to the log on screen portion of the set up wizard the username is already pre filled out as 'Admin' (it can't be changed), the password is blank but when I click on next I get a pop up a few seconds later stating 'login fail, please try again or leave password blank.'

I've tried this numerous times and even rebooted the device using the factory reset on the back (the device stated it was rebooting so I'm sure it worked)

What else can I try???

The version number displayed on the OLED is 1.02
I've got 2 brand new 4 TB drives in the drive bays, loaded into the top two drive bays and they top 2 bays are highlighted on the OLED screen
I'm on windows 7 and the share link is connected direct to my laptop.
I've downloaded the new set up software from the dlink website

Thanks.

PC Web Browser Configurations
What browser are you using?
Try Opera or FF? If IE 8, 9, 10 or 11, set compatibility mode and test again.
Disable any security browser Add-ons like No Script and Ad-Block or configure them to allow All Pages when connected to the router.
Clear all browser caches.
Be sure to log into the Admin account on the router.
Try turning off these features in Chrome:
Top right corner, little bars for options > Settings > Settings (on left) > Show advanced settings.
Uncheck these:
Use a web service to help resolve navigation errors
Use a prediction service to help complete searches and URLs typed in the address bar
Predict network actions to improve page load performance
Enable phishing and malware protection

Yep, I'm using the instructions for once.

There is no mention of using the web on the quick start guide. I've also tried the set up downloaded straight form the dlink web site.

Any chance you can connect the DNS to your main host router and log in to the UI?

Not sure about the setup SW. Maybe JavaLawyer can help however he's been busy as of late.  ::)

The quick start still says use the disk to connect first time even if its connected to the router. I can see the share centre in the set up programme, its not visible for a few minutes whilst the device is booting up. As soon as the welcome screen disappears it shows up in the set up wizard. So it looks like it is recognising the device, I just can't log on!

How would I connect via the web, do i use the ip address displayed on the device when I click through the menu screens?

The IP address starts 169.254 and my home IP is 192.168 and I can't see a new device on the router home page.

What Mfr and model is your router?

Are you seeing the network LAN LED in back ON and blinking when the LAN cable is connected?

I just connected the DNS to my router and saw that it got a IP address, I used that address to connect to the DNS's UI page using the IE browser.

The DNS should pick up an IP address from any router if the cable is good and the router is handing out IPs correctly.

I configured my DNS with a static IP address, 192.168.0.34 for my network that way I know it always has that IP address and can connect to that address all the time. Helps when setting up remote apps and such and configuring router rules to.

Its a virgin media super hub 2.

I got in using the tiny instructions on the back of the box.

http:/Dlink-xxxxxx where xxxxxxid the last 6 digits of the mac address shown on the bottom of the box.

The web address is also the name of the device shown during the setup wizard. I know because i tried it as a password earlier!

Just realised I may have made a mistake with this purchase, I wasn't going to connect directly to my router. I thought the box had in built wifi! Can I plug a wifi adapter into the Ethernet port?

I live in a shared house and the router is in someone else's room, no a massive problem as it purely for back up so can just wire it directly to my main pc.

You could connect a D-Link model DAP bridge to the DNSs LAN connection.

Some suggestions for Bridges:
Bridge Mode vs Relay vs Acess Point (AP) / Routers vs Dedicated Acess Points (AP)
