Is my DIR-655 a lemon?
« on: July 13, 2014, 08:16:10 PM »

Hi all.

I've been pounding my head against a wall for over a month now trying to figure out what is the deal with my 655.

Getting a lot of packet loss, connection drops altogether at times and just displays "Limited Access" or no internet.

I cannot update the firmware. I verified that my hardware version is A1 and running 1.00NA, but when I get passed the upload file screen, it says upload failed because router is "busy" or it is the incorrect file - which I have confirmed it is the right file: DIR655_FW_V1.37NAB01

Sitting 2 feet away from my DIR 655 and I am getting the same problems as I do upstairs. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I can't connect my HTC One smartphone to it. I am the only person accessing this connection - no roommates.

This is how I set up the router: Logged into 192.168.0.1, manually set up the wireless connection, with auto and connection set to mixed G/N - set up the wireless password. Done.

Help?

Region? Northern California, USA.

Reason for updating FW: Well since my router doesn't seem to work and I assumed updating my version A, 1.0 firmware from 2010 would be a sensible troubleshooting route.

I think if you still have the 1.00 firmware, that you need to flash it to the 1.10 version before you can update to the newest ones.  If that doesn't work you need to go progressively from 1.01 ->1.06 then 1.10 and then the newer ones.

Here is a link to the D-Link FTP site that has all the versions for the A models:
