I'm having a surprising amount of trouble trying to update the firmware. I've tried IE11, Chrome 39, and Firefox 33 under Windows 8.1 and IE11 under Windows 7. In each of these cases, attempting to upload the firmware (DAP2695_REVA_FIRMWARE_1_10_RC035.bin) results in an immediate connection reset from the access point's web server (chrome's console shows that the post to upload_image._int results in a net::ERR_CONNECTION_RESET error), displaying each browser's version of "this page cannot be loaded" within the frame. I am connected via wired ethernet with no vlans or anything funny. The Windows 7 computer was connected directly to the AP's LAN2 port.
So, being unable to use the web upload, I figured I'd try the AP Manager II v3.0. On both the Windows 8.1 and Window 7 computers, I can't get past the login screen. I've tried D-Link's default admin/<blank>, my preferred admin/<myPassword>, and even my Windows username. Actually, I had to create a separate admin account for that as my password is 15 characters and the password field won't accept that many.
I figure my next step will be to find a tftp server program and do it via the command line -- I was able to get ssh access going and it doesn't seem any more difficult than what I remember from a dozen years ago when I had the care and feeding of a couple Cisco routers. Still, if there is something wrong here, it seems like an excellent way to brick the AP, so I figure I'd check in here first.
Thanks for any solutions either to the web firmware update or logging in to the APMII software. Or warnings about TFTP.
