Media file data corruption
« on: August 25, 2021, 01:00:08 AM »

I have been using my Share Centre 320 as a media centre for several years.
Recently I noticed sync'd music files to my ipod did not play, and now podcasts are the same.  I though it was an issue with my aging ipod, so I reset it, but now no files work at all!
On further investigation, it seems ALL files on the NAS will not work, mp3's, images, videos everything.
The files all remain in place with their file names, file sizes, dates of creation etc, so all look normal, but when you try to open or play any, they simply fail.  With MP3, trying via my network linked PC, I often get unsupported file errors.
If I need to go and re-create my media library, that's time consuming, but so be it, thankfully any precious unreplaceable images are saved elsewhere in multiple locations.
Any suggestions on what has happened and if it is possible to recover the data without having to rip all my CD's again?
thanks in advance.
