Hello

We have an internet connection with a static IP. The static IP is necessary for a special software, installed on a PC. We want to bridge the internet connection, using a D-Link DSL-2740U wireless router in order to use internet by smartphones and etc, as well. The router uses a DHCP server to set the clients' IPs automatically.

Is it possible to assign the static IP to PC? The PC will be connected to the router via a LAN connection.
Internet connection is provided via a wireless connection and is connected to router via a LAN cable to WAN/LAN input.

You might see if there is a bridging feature on this model router. I would review the user manual and see.

I bridged the internet connection successfully. But I couldn't connect the PC to router. Wifi connections were ok.

Be sure your PCs networking is set for automatic obtain IP addressing and you may need to set up PPPoE account information ON the PC.

We use a point to point internet connection. The antenna is connected to a modem which has a LAN output. We'd like to share the output internet connection.

You'll need to use the DSL modem in router mode then. You might try putting the PC with this particular SW into the DMZ on the DSL modem when you get it set up in router mode. You can't share the same public IP address across multiple devices. It take a router to handle this. NAT.

As I understood, we have a static IP, dedicated by ISP. But if we share or bridge the connection between several devices using the router, they will individually have a specific IP, set by the router. So If we connect the PC to the router, it will have a different IP from the main static one and probably we will have problem with the specific software installed in the PC, which needs a static IP to connect to a server somewhere else.

Thats correct. You get a private IP address from the router. You can only get one Public IP address to one device, PC or router. And not both at the same time.

I recommend you try the DMZ on the modem and see if this might help with the SW. IF not, then you'll need to contact the Mfr of the SW and see if there is a different configuration to help with getting it connected. Give then your networking configuration information. Maybe they have information for use of there SW with NAT routers.

Honestly these are beyond my knowledge about networking. I should contact the ISP and ask for possible technical aid.
