Bug with WPA encryption with latest FW (1.02b3)
« on: December 15, 2011, 06:56:29 PM »

Hi,

My router is an Asus RT-N16 runs TomatoUSB (http://tomatousb.org/) and I have nearly 10 wireless devices including my DCS-932L. The camera was working fine until I upgraded to 1.02b3. After the upgrade, It was unable to connect to my wifi network. When I plug in an ethernet cable, the light goes green instantly. On my router, under device list, I see the the camera trying to connect but it disappears after like 5 seconds and retries 10 seconds later. I googled and browsed these forums and I saw that a factory reset could solve the problem. That's what I did. I tried with a pin in the hole for 10 seconds, failed. I also tried in the gui but the result was the same, the camera was not connecting with an encryption mode.

So I called the dlink tech support and they had me do all the basic troubleshooting and after being escalated to senior technician, with whom I did again, all the basic troubleshooting. I did it because I understand it's standard procedure, and it's corporate blabla. Anyways, I was finally told I should return the camera to the store and that it was defective, He refused to issue a RMA because I had it for less than a month and he also blamed my router but I insisted that it was impossible because of my other devices that are working fine.

So tonight, instead of returning the camera to the store, I decided I'd try a rollback on the firmware. I tried the firmware 1.01b3 and it was still not working. I tried a reset to factory setting and finally it was working. I was so happy I danced with my girlfriend listening to christmas music. I wanted to fill in a survey on the dlink website (I got an email yesterday following my call about that survey) but the website told me that the survey was not found. (Below is a list of calls that you made regarding this issue. You can provide feedback for each call individually. Please select the call for which you would like to provide feedback. No Records Found!)

I was a bit disappointed I couldn't express my feeling and I'm wondering if the guy from Dlink technical support really did activate the survey on my case number.

Anyways, the goal of this post is to inform the dev that there's definitely a glitch with WPA and the new firmware. Dlink, you guys make great products, I use my Boxee everyday, (right now I'm still listening to christmas music with it), I really love my DCS when it's working and I love the fact that you support and distribute open source software. I will keep to buy your products when I need them and thank you for being a great company unlike some other more closed companies.

Thank you for sharing your experience with our community.  Can other users verify an issue with WPA following an upgrade to firmware version 1.03b03? I'll add this to our DCS-932L firmware wishlist if we can obtain concurrence from a few more users.

Thanks!  ;)

I can confirm that the WPA / WPA2 encryption doesn't work on my DCS-930L.
The cam is brand new.
I didn't work on 1.02 and neither after updating to 1.03.

The old WEP and no encryption works fine. Wired is also working ok.
I'm using a Thomson TG 789 Gateway as provided by my ISP.

Me too I have the same issue with 2 new DCS 932L and a linksys WAP4400N.
The wire connection and wifi no encryption and wep works fine.

It's very problematic situation because they are new.

I wait your solution please.

I just purchased the Camera and a linksys e4200 N router today. WPA/WPA2 security
camera firmware: 1.02 (2011-10-14)

I can connect with the Ethernet cable but not the wireless.
phone help was worthless. told me to change my wireless password - then ended up disconnecting.

My router and computer really did not like the idea of going back to WEP "security".

I bought the camera to use wirelessly, and paid an extra $80 to have wireless.

Hi
I've noticed that if the router is set to auto(wpa/wpa2) the camera can have problems establishing a connection.
Set the router to WPA(tkip) or WPA2(aes) then it works fine.

Also my camera, DCS 932L, is not working with wifi. Firmware 1.09.
The router is TP-LINK M5250. The router only supports "no security" and "WPA+WPA2 security".
The router uses WPA/TKIP and WPA2/AES; my clients usually choose WPA2/AES.
The camera does not support WPA2 only. The router also does not support WPA2 only.
The camera, in the "STATUS" tab, says it wants to connect with WPA2-PSK:TKIP, which is NOT supported by the router. The connection is never established.

This camera (and also this router ;) ) was not a good purchase.

I would get into a new router. D-Link has several routers that support WPA2 only features. I've tested my 933L camera with many D-Link routers and it works well. I presume something new like a DIR series router will solve your problem.
