Hi I recently bought this router and I'm baffled with the wireless performance.

I thought I bought a wifi N300 capable router and I'm getting this:

What is the average speed I'm supposed to be getting to?? I was hopping at least to get closer to the 100mb while transfers from 10/100 to wireless go all the way up to 4MB which is maybe half a meg more than my old G router.

• What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
• Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
• What region are you located?

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations

• What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
• What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
• Is ISP Modem/Service using Dynamic or Static WAN IP addressing?
• What ISP Modem service link speeds UP and Down do you have?
• Check cable between Modem and Router, swap out to be sure. Link> Cat6 is recommended.
• Check ISP MTU requirements, Cable is usually 1500, DSL is around 1492 down to 1472. Call the ISP and ask. Link>Checking MTU Values

Wireless Configurations

• Ensure the default (dlink) SSID name is changed. Can be anything and not something that's already in use by any neighboring WiFi routers. Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
• What wireless modes are you using?
• 2.4Ghz Routers only: Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N?
• Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only.
• Try setting a manual Channel to a open or unused channel. 1, 6 or 11. 11 for single mode N if the channel is clear. 13 for EU regions.
• What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only or Auto TPIK and AES.
• What wireless devices do you have connected?
• Any 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz cordless house phones or WiFi APs near by?
• Any other WiFi routers in the area? Link> Use InSSIDer to find out. How many?
• If you have any of these options, Try turning OFF or ON Short GI, WLAN Partition, Extra Wireless Protection and HT 20/40 Co-existence if you have it. Also testing with HT20/40Mhz Co-existence enabled will impact results as well. I prefer to use this option OFF. Recommended settings are default. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.

I've tried only N, only G, N+G, 20hz, 20/40, etc.

I'm from Chile, HW version A1, I even updated the firmware (From 1.0 to 1.03) since it said it improved wifi speeds. It has nothing to do in regards to ISP since I'm testing file transfer on a lan from ethernet at 100 mbps to wireless (Through cable it goes all the way up to 11MBps).

The fastest it went was to 5,5MBps.

Can you test file xfer speeds using a wired PC connected to the router with sharing enabled with a folder that has some files in the folder? Sizes ranging from 500Mb to 4Gb?

Be aware that actual xfer speeds will differ from connection rates.

What connection rates are you seeing on the router under Status/Wireless?

Ok so I think I'm repeating myself when you ask for questions I already answered.

Cabled transfers are at the 10-11MBps rate.
As seen in the picture linked in the first post the status is showing N connections at 65mbps.

After setting only N WPA2 AES (As I had it configured) but switching manual channel 11 and auto 20/40 only 20Mhz it goes all the way up to 72Mbps (From 65), for rated transfer speeds ranging from 4,8~5,8 MBps.

So it's not getting anywhere close to the N300 capabilities.

My question is, in real life tests and usage, what are the speeds delivered by this router??

EDIT: The notebook I'm trying with has AC Dual Band capabilities, so I'm pretty sure it's not it. Also I have it maybe 1mtr or 2mtr away and it shows 80% signal.

You need to check to see what the supporting connection rates on your wireless adapter are on 2.4Ghz. Some adapters may not support 300Mb connect rates. Again, the 300Mb is a connection rate between the router and the device. Not actual file xfer speeds. It's up to the device on how it's designed and support to handle connection rates. For example I have a Mac Book Pro 2007 dual band adatper. The maximum connection rate on 2.4 Ghz is 130Mb. Even though my router supports 300Mb, I will never see 300Mb on 2.4Ghz. If I switch to 5Ghz, my MBP connects at 300Mb since it's supported on the frequency.

What connection rate do you see on the wireless status on the router which those settings? I'm hoping for higher rates maybe...

If you have an AC mode supporting device, you might be better off getting into an AC class router instead.

Sadly I'm not interested into getting an AC wireless adapter, since I'm using an old netbook as a samba server plus some goodies it's 10/100 only, I'm not planning on either getting a newer model or building something to work as a NAS server either, also there is a HUGE difference in price, which again I will not take advantage in getting.

I know I wont get the full 300Mbps my hopes were to get into the 100Mbps so it could be on par with my actual bottleneck, the 10/100 ethernet device.

Did however disable the co-exhistence option which now sets my notebook into the 135M range, I still get an average of 7,6MBps on large file transfers (More like on a 80Mbps). Which undoubtetly is better but I don't feel it's all it said in the box it would be.

At 135Mb thats probably about the best you can get with this device on 2.4 Ghz. That about what I see with my MBP on 2.4Ghz. Testing with different adapters that support 300Mb and 450Mb, I've seen from 10Mb upwards towards 20Mb on 2.4Ghz on wirless to LAN connected PC thats shared out. Thats with adapters that support 300Mb and higher connetion rates. It seems like your connection rate is limited to 135Mb with this adapter.

If your looking to do large file xfers, I would recommend using wired LAN connections for doing this kind of xfer especially if your going to do this on a frequent basis, or get into 5Ghz frequency or AC mode.

The 626 is a good router and should be basic needs. Again, it can do 300Mb on connection rates however your client HW has to support it to use it. Use wired LAN cables where possible. Also the use of network LAN switches is recommended if you have NAS and Servers online. Eliminates the need of any un-necessary router management as well.

I had the same issue. I had to disable the Wireless A network to achieve the 300mb rate.
