Help! Cameras keep dropping offline.
« on: June 25, 2015, 08:13:03 PM »

I have two DCS-5222LB1 and one DCS-2132L. They have static IPs. All three of these cameras are regularly dropping off of my network and they refuse to go back on until rebooted.  When they go down I cannot reach them on the internet and they stop recording on the computer with D-ViewCam.

I realize my cable modem/WiFi may be junk, but that's outside of my control.  It belongs to the ISP.  Besides, even if connectivity is unreliable, that's only an intermittent problem. Why can't the cameras recover when the network is restored?

Honestly, I am at my wit's end. This is really driving me crazy. What should I do?

Where are the cameras located in relation to your router?

I wired some of my cameras and the difference was staggering. No more dropped frames.

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your DCS? Look at the sticker behind or under the camera.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the DCSs web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

What Mfr and model is the main host router?
What wireless modes are you using?
What is the distance between the Camera and the main host router?
  • Any other WiFi routers in the area that maybe causing interferences? Link> Use InSSIDer to find out. How many? Use v3, its free.

The two 5222's are B/2 hardware, and the 2132 is A/1 revision.

My network is Comcast, which means it's crap by definition. I already know that. The question is why don't the cameras just deal with it like every other device in my house does?  When the network is up, they should come back online. It's not rocket science.

ISP HW is not designed as well as dedicated external routers. I presume this could be a issue with the ISP modem and the cameras. I recommend trying a DIR series router or shut off the wireless radio on the ISP modem and setup up a Link model DAP as a wireless AP.

These cameras are junk. I am just plain tired of messing with my network to get these pieces of garbage to stay online.

I spent a whole night replacing my WiFi network and the things are still dropping out.  I could not possibly be more disappointed than I am in these cameras. My old Logitech was orders of magnitude better than this.

Just garbage!

I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.
Let us know how it goes please.
