Shareport in OS Windows 7 on DIR 655
« on: December 19, 2009, 01:33:33 AM »

Hi there,

I read a lot about the problems with Windows 7 and Shareport, but didn't find a solution yet.
Who can Help me?

Router is DIR 655, Firmware 1.32NA, Shareport 1.1.0 R1 (SXUTPT Driver : 3.3.4.0).
I am using a USB HD Western Digital 1 Tb on the shareport utility.
on a Windows Vista pc the thing is visible, accessable and working perfectly.
on a Windows 7 (64) pc the HD appears for 5 seconds and then it is shown available.
But every time I try to acces it, it tries but doesn't connect.

Do you have to provide power to your device?  Maybe the device isn't getting enough juice from the port (perhaps it wasn't meant to?).

I had the previous version working before on XP notebooks.  Now in v1.10 (05/12/09) and the latest beta version for my DGL-4500 I have it working on 7 and Vista notebooks.  I have an HP LaserJet printer connected to the router and it prints fine using the utility.

The problem I have is that the connect only when using the printer option doesn't work.  I don't want the utility always running and I'm fine manually launching it for the rare occasion I need to print.  I tried to get it to work as described for my family but it doesn't.

Don't think this company will fix it with 7 months already past since the last update.

The HD is getting seperat juice. So that can't be the problem, thanks for your reply though.

Yes I installed the 64 bit version, but still no positive reaction.

I think I had the same issue under Windows 7, but with the DIR-825 router.  It's probably the same underlying issue.

In a nutshell, there are 3 entries in the Windows Advanced Firewall, inbound rules that the SharePort installation sets up.  Two entries are called: 'SharePort Utility' and the third is called: SXUPTP

The installation only enabled the 'public' profile for these 3 inbound rules.  I had to also enable the 'private' profile for these 3 inbound rules.  This should probably be fixed in the installation software itself.

(see below for more detailed instructions)

If it works for you, post a reply on this board.

Best,

Gino.

I'm sorry, I tried but this doesn't fix the problem eighter.

I am getting a bit hopeless at this moment, nothing seems to work.
